Believed to be: Born in Norwich in Q1-1897 [Norwich 4b:160] to Charles William and Alice KIRBY (née BURTON) of 9 Heigham Street, Norwich. 1901 census...Rupert [4] was at 9 Heigham Street Norwich with his father Charles [31], a hairdresser/tobacconist; his mother Alice [33]; sister Florence [11]; brothers Charles [10]; Edgar [4]; and Frank [4 months]. All were born in Norwich. 1911 census...Rupert [14] was assisting his father in business, still at 9 Heigham Street, with his parents; brother Charles and sister Florence. His brother Edgar was a butcher and Frank was at school. There were two new siblings, Daisy [7] and Reginald [2] both born in Norwich. Two further children had been born but died. This is the only casualty of this name and currently the only connection with Newmarket is that he enlisted in Newmarket. |

and the fact that he apparently died of his wounds in a base hospital near Boulogne, there is no way of knowing how, where or when he was wounded. |
